Endurance focus

RAM Motorsport Porsche Paynter Dixon Carrera Cup Australia drivers Dylan O’Keeffe and Dean Cook will be focused on the Endurance Cup championship-within-a-championship when the series heads to the streets of the Gold Coast for the penultimate round this weekend.

While he endured a difficult first half of the season, O’Keeffe was able to keep his points tally ticking over in the longer-distance races that featured at the Townsville, Tailem Bend, Sandown and Bathurst rounds (and will also feature at the Gold Coast and Adelaide), and now finds himself just 11 points behind Endurance Cup leader, Callum Hedge.

Meanwhile, Cook is within striking distance of the top of the points table in both the Endurance Cup and overall Pro-Am championships, sitting third in both.

O’Keeffe’s chances of a top three championship result have also been boosted by strong results in the last two rounds, highlighted by his overall victory at Sandown.

“If you had told me when I was parked on the side of the road with a smashed-up car at Tailem Bend, that I would be fighting for a top three championship position a couple of rounds later, I wouldn’t have believed it,” O’Keeffe said.

“But it’s an absolute credit to the GWR/RAM Motorsport team for turning our fortunes around – the work they did after Tailem Bend to not only fix my car, but come up with a package that allowed me to dominate the Sandown round was incredible.”

While it might be a street circuit, the Gold Coast venue shares some similarities with Sandown, where both drivers achieved round wins in their respective classes, including numerous 90-degree corners and high kerb usage.

On-track action starts on Friday with practice, ahead of qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and Races 2 (the Endurance Cup race) and 3 on Sunday.
